It is not possible to give an exact solution for some of these mini-games as they are random with each new game. Mini-games have to be completed throughout the course of the chapters, which are generally quite easy. The main aim is to restore the eight completed jewels to the crown. All of the jewel pieces must be found in the chapter in order to complete the jewel. Using one of the items in the correct place in a chapter can sometimes result in a jewel piece being awarded. Not all of the items on the object list can be taken straight away, as sometimes a puzzle may have to be solved first before the item becomes available to take. All of the items must eventually be used before the chapter can be completed. For example, a corkscrew may be used on a corked bottle. Items that are found are shown in red, with a question mark that can be selected to reveal a hint.Įach item that is found can be used on a specific object or character in one of the locations in that chapter. There are eight chapters in the game, and one aim in each chapter is to explore the locations on the map to find all of the items that are displayed at the bottom of the screen. The Exit button exits the game if Yes is selected or returns to the main menu if No is selected. The Credits button displays a list of the people that were involved in making this game. There is also a toggle button for full screen mode. The Options button displays a window where music, ambient and SFX volume can be changed. The Play Game button displays the play game window, where there are options to resume the game from a current point that a player has reached, play a tutorial (required for new players) or start a new game. In the player window, up to five players can be added, selected or deleted. To change this, click the black button below the name of the player to display the players window. The unlimited hint button highlights the position of one of the pieces, taking a few seconds to recharge after use, and Mortimer warns when there is no piece to be found.The name of the currently selected player is displayed below the title. There is no penalty for clicking on wrong places. It contains all the clues discovered so far, as they are added automatically to the pages after being uncovered. A notebook at the right side can be accessed at any time. Some screens have interactive puzzles that must be solved with logic, or using information gathered somewhere else. The speech balloon cursor shows up when one of the characters can talk. The jigsaw piece cursor indicates puzzle interaction. The gears cursor appears when over the original place of one of the objects. Each place is presented as a series of screens, with hotspots that change the cursor to indicate the action to be performed. The map button brings up an overhead view of all available places, and allows instantaneous travel to them. Puzzle items are tools to be used on certain places to solve problems or gain access to some place, and misplaced items are objects that must be put back to their place of origin.Įach chapter is a different time period with several locations. The objects are assembled and stored in the inventory strip at the bottom, divided in two categories: puzzle items to the left and misplaced items to the right. Mortimer Beckett and the Time Paradox is a hidden object game where, instead of clicking on objects from a list at the side of the screen, the player must search for pieces of objects scattered around the scenery. Mortimer must enter them and travel to the past and future, to collect anachronistic objects that were sucked by the portals and ended up on the wrong era, causing dangerous time paradoxes. Uncle Jerome asks Mortimer to help him again, this time with time portals in his manor.
